Student Survivor viral game
Student Survivor was built for UNIAID, a charity which looks after the welfare of students. We thought that this would be too good an opportunity to pass up and decided that it was likely to be the only chance we'd get to make an homage to one of our favourite old skool games. Our inspiration was the Commodore 64 classic from the 80’s "Little Computer People", a game in which players looked after a character in a virtual house - keeping him alive and well.
Our adaptation saw the player being able to take control, via text commands, of a student in his own accommodation. The main idea was to keep the student's health, social status and academic level balanced to stand a chance of winning free Uni accommodation for the year. To keep it fun, we added a load of commands that were totally irrelevant and just provided us with pure amusement. The game performed well and has brought a significantly increased level visibility of UNIAID, as well as allowing us to descend upon another swanky London hotel to pick up a "Highly Commended" in the Third Sector Charity Effectiveness awards.
